reading

HP and the Deatlhy Hallows, pt 2

Spoiler-tastic! And full of capslock. I MEAN IT! D:

This movie handled the second half of the book in a really good way. I was personally not a big fan of the Deathly Hallows when I first read it - for one, I find the pacing odd. The magic is just not there in the same way as in the other books. Not sure if you are supposed to take that figuratively or literally... anyways. There were many silent, meaningful moments that gave the whole movie a sense of melancholy. The fighting wasn't glamorous - but then again, the slaughter of children can never be.

Ralph Fiennes did an amazing job and truly showed us how how Voldemort unraveled, getting more desperate as his horcruxes were destroyed one by one. You can't quite know what to expect from this character, since he always acts deceivingly calm until he SNAPS and someone dies. It's unnerving, awesome and can't be easy to pull off, but Fiennes really caught that aura and enveloped the audience in it.

Now, for the - in my opinion - best part of the whole movie.

Snape's redemption.

DUN DUN DUUUUUN!

I always hated Snape throughout the books, thinking of him as an arrogant, heartless bastard, but when everything finally came together in this collage of scattered, fragmented memories, where he comes clean and pulls his secrets into the light... I started to love the man! The boy playing young!Snape was mind-bogglingly awesome despite having so little screentime. The "now see what you just did, you made this angel drop her books"-look in his eyes when James had run into them... That far too short sequence showed such a level of complete and utter adoration for her that it wrenched my heart inside out. And Rickman's performance, in itself, paid the whole ticket for me. He is a terrific actor, which he once again gets to show us when Snape discovers Lily's corpse, or when he confronts Dumbledore about it and has to support himself because he is in so much pain... I cried so hard that I had to remove my glasses and wipe my eyes. That hurt. It still does! HE JUST NEEDED SOME LOVE, DAMMIT!

How can Rowling, Yates and Rickman, through the span of a few pages/minutes, turn my hatred and contempt for his character, and everything he stands for, into a confusing mix of adoration and pity?

Y THEY DO THIS TO ME?! T__T

I hate it, love it, and last but not least applaud them all for managing to do so.

Overall, the Deathly Hallows ot 2 was a good movie. Not the best in the series, but a worthy closure to an epic adventure that has followed me through my teenage years. I can't believe it's finally over, but the ending couldn't have been better considering the contents of the last book. I really have more to say about this movie, but it will have to wait until I can think straight and formulate better sentences.

"BOOM!"

TF: Dark of the moon

My two cents on this movie. I'm warning you: there will be spoilers.

I missed a couple of things from the first two movies.

Where the **** is Bee's voice? D: WHY hasn't it come back yet? Have I missed something? has the VA from the first movie gone underground?

And it's okay to mourn Jazz, but not Ironhide? Seriously, he died because Sentinel Prime decided to switch teams - Optimus should be guilt-wrecked and honor him with at least a comment after the fighting, but nooooo. And Lennox? The two were partners in crime for several years, I can only imagine what our favorite soldier thinks about losing Ironhide. Leave that to our imagination, Bay. Just do that. Be heartless, by all means.

I know, I know. "This is a movie about giant robots fighting other giant robots, stop being a creepy fangirl", right? My point is that there's lots and lots of fluff between Bee and Sam, while the other characters (besides Carey, for the sake of the plot) seem to be made of stone. Not even metal. STONE.

On the other hand, I liked the slightly twisted feeling that Tarantino gave this movie. Seriously, people EXPLODING all over the place? Whoa. Awesome, disgusting and just as dangerous as the Decepticons can be.

I would have preferred moving on from the typical "comical relief delivered by smaller bots"-thing that they've had going on since the beginning, and instead put more effort in interaction between the main non-human characters. Ever since I saw the first movie, I have spent a considerable amount of time imagining the dynamics within the Autobot team. The script writers have some fantastic personalities to work with and I'd really, really like to see more of it on the silver screen. That would make the movie become a little less like mindless action - which is good but slightly overdosed - and easier to embrace for the original TF-fans.

And the ending.

The ENDING.

SHAME ON YOU, DIRECTORS.

Seriously? We get nothing more than "the Earth has been saved for two minutes, let's put in a micro-speech by Optimus Prime before we throw the credits at the audience"?! WHAT THE HELL! How hard would it be to give us some aftermath? At least SOMETHING? D:< I like lots of action and pretty slow motion-sequences, but it's best served with a dash of character development, humor, and actual interaction between others than a select few main characters and a bunch of political/military dudes that we couldn't care less for in the end?

In short:
+ the animation and amount of attention spent on detail is, as always, mind-boggling.
+ Laserbeak
+ Lots of fanfiction material for Bee/Sam-shippers!

- In some aspects, at least plot-wise, more two-dimensional than Avatar.
- Rushed
- Cold-hearted in the wrong places

(no subject)

This must be THE best song that I've ever heard from a game OST. It seriously gives me shivers and goosebumps all over, and I keep klicking the replay button over and over again. It's like a drug! @___@;

I really should be more active here...

...since I have no other place to geek around all I want on. Too many "normal" people read my other blog, which makes me hesitant to post far too much geekery in it >__>.

Maybe it's time to start posting here and not just stalk communities?

whooosh

I come bearing FST!

Hello! This is my first attempt at a fan-soundtrack. ^__^; I always wanted to make one, so here ya go!

It is, like the title says, mostly about Edward, and belongs to the first anime and the movie. It's been ages since I watched them, though, so I'm sorry if my comments to the songs doesn''t make sense.

I'll have to warn you - the FST dark and angsty. Why? Because Ed IS dark and angsty.

Anyway, hope you like it! =D

(Spoilers for the first anime and the movie in my comments down there )

1. Dead by april – Losing you [lyrics]
All the nights I've prayed

Must this all be untrue

I am not prepared to be strong

I just can't believe

I am losing you

Unprepared to carry on

I can't see you walk away

So cold, so alone

Edward’s thoughts during and after That Night. Shocked, he realizes that he could have lost Al, too.

2. 3 Doors down – It’s not my time [lyrics]

I look ahead to all the plans that we made

And the dreams that we had

I'm in a world that tries to take them away

Ohhhhh but I'm taking them back

Cause all this time I've just been too blind to understand

What should matter to me

My friend, this life we live is not what we have

It's what we believe in

He now has a goal, and decided to become a State Alchemist. He promises to do everything in his power to get Al’s body back.

3. Linkin Park – Breaking the habit
[lyrics]

I don't know what's worth fighting for

Or why I have to scream

I don't know why I instigate

And say what I don't mean

I don't know how I got this way

I know it's not alright

So I'm breaking the habit

I'm breaking the habit

Tonight...

Edward beats Tucker to a pulp and screams “I’M. NOT. LIKE. YOU!”

4. Green day – Boulevard of broken dreams
[lyrics]

I'm walking down the line

That divides me somewhere in my mind

On the borderline of the edge

And where I walk alone

Read between the lines of what's

Fucked up and everything's alright

Check my vital signs to know I'm still alive

And I walk alone

He keeps doubting himself afterwards.

5. Cage the elephant – No rest for the wicked
[lyrics]

I was walking down the street when out the corner of my eye,

I saw a pretty little thing approaching me.

She said I’ve never seen a ma, who looks so all alone,

Could you use a little company?

[…]
Not even 15 minutes later,

After walking down the street,

When I saw the shadow of a man creep out of sight,

Then he crept up from behind,

Put a gun up to my head

In Lior. First, he sees Rose, who’s in pain and sells her soul to the church. Shortly afterwards, Cornello threatens him with a gun. (I like this song partly for the lyrics, partly for the teenager-y spirit xD )

6. Seal – Killer [lyrics]

It's the loneliness that's the killer

So you want

To be free

To live your life,

The way you wanna be.

Will you give

If we cry

Will we live

Or will we die?

[…]

Solitary brother

Is there still a part of you that wants to live?

Scar has attacked the boys, Ed tried to sacrifice himself and Al clocked him for it.

7. Rob Thomas – Something to be [lyrics]

Hey man

Play another one of those heartbreak songs

Tell another story how things go wrong

And they never get back

My pain is a platinum stack

Take that shit back

You don't wanna be me when it all goes wrong

You don't wanna see me with the houselights on

I'm a little too headstrong

Stand tall

I don't wanna get walked on

This just… fits Ed, and the whole situation he is in, being the military and all. I had to include it. xD

8. The Black Eyed Peas vs Papa Roach – Anxiety
[lyrics]

I don't fear none of my enemies

And I don't fear bullets from Uzis

I've been dealing with something that’s worse than these

That'll make you fall to your knees and that’s the

Anxiety

The sane and the insane rivalry

Paranoia has brought me to my knees

Lord please please, please

Take away my anxiety

Just this one line will be enough: “I’ve seen hell!”

9. Green Day – Working class hero
[lyrics]

There's room at the top they are telling you still

But first you must learn how to smile as you kill

If you want to be like the folks on the hill

A working class hero is something to be

Edward realizes that the military is worse than he thought; that he has to really dirty his hands to get what he wants.

10. Mattafix – Living Darfur
[lyrics]

See the nation through the people's eyes,

See tears that flow like rivers from the skies.

Where it seems there are only borderlines

Where others turn and sigh,

You shall rise

Ed is the “people’s alchemist”, but he doesn’t feel like it.

11. Jack Johnson – Imagine
[lyrics]

Imagine there's no heaven

It's easy if you try

No hell below us

Above us only sky

Imagine all the people

Living for today

Imagine there's no countries,

It isn't hard to do

Nothing to kill or die for

And no religion too

Imagine all the people

Living life in peace

This one is pretty selfexplanatory. Ed thinks about how easier things could have been without the military.

12. Linkin Park – Pushing me away (piano version)
[lyrics]

Everything falls apart

Even the people who never frown

Eventually break down

The sacrifice of hiding in a lie

Everything has to end

You’ll soon find we’re out of time

To watch it all unwind

Al thinks Ed made him and they have the fight. This song could be from both brothers’ POV, in a way.

13. Flipsyde - Someday
[lyrics]

If you can't feel pain then it's no gain

Rearrange and you change and it's all bad

And you try to maintain but you fall back

And you crawl and you slip and you slide down

Wanna make it to the top better start now

So I hold my soul and I die hard

All alone in the night in the graveyard

Someday one day I'm gonna be free

And they won't try to kill me for being me

Hey someday

Izumi has dropped them off on the island and they have time to think things over. It just strengthens their determination.

14. Gavin Degraw - I don’t want to be
[lyrics]

I don’t want to be anything other than what I’ve been trying to be lately

All I have to do is think of me and I've peace of mind

I’m tired of looking ‘round rooms wondering what I gotta do

Or who I’m supposed to be

I don’t want to be anything other than me

I’m surrounded by liars everywhere I turn

I’m surrounded by imposters everywhere I turn

I’m surrounded by identity crisis everywhere I turn

Am I the only one to notice?

I can’t be the only one who’s learned

Edward and Alphonse fights with Sloth, who used to be their mother.

15. The Script – We cry
[lyrics]

Jenny was a poor girl

Living in a rich world

Named her baby Hope when she was just 14

She was hoping for a better world

For this little girl

But the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree

[…]

There’s so much sad, it’s gonna flood the ocean

We are all in tears of a word that’s broken

Meeting Rose, and her little baby. Edward thinks that he is supposed to be powerful, but still fails to protect those around him.

16. The fray – How to save a life
[lyrics]

Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend

Somewhere along in the bitterness

And I would have stayed up with you all night

Had I known how to save a life

How to save a life

Edward sacrifices himself when he realizes what Al did for him.

17. Linkin Park – Leave out all the rest
[lyrics]

I dreamed I was missing

You were so scared

But no one would listen

Cause no one else cared

After my dreaming

I woke with this fear

What am I leaving

When I'm done here

Movieverse.

On the other side, Edward wonders what has happened to Al. Is he even alive? He hopes his little brother understands why he sacrificed himself. At the same time, he has to deal with Alfons, and he knows he’s being colder towards the Al he does have at the moment.

18. Daughtry – Home (acoustic version)
[lyrics]

I'm staring out into the night,

Trying to hide the pain

I'm going to the place where love

And feeling good don't ever cost a thing.

And the pain you feel's a different kind of pain.

I'm going home,

Back to the place where I belong,

And where your love has always been enough for me

I'm not running from

No, I think you got me all wrong.

I don't regret this life I chose for me

But these places and these faces are getting old

So I'm going home

Edward sits inside the rocket and reflects. He’s not running from Germany, he’s just going home to the people he loves.
